Remote Pilot Licence (RePL)

Gain your Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with NQ Aerovation and FPV Australia. <7kg and <25kg multi-rotor training available.

Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) & AROC Training

Whether you are looking to break into the drone industry, work under an existing drone company or simply take your drone operations more seriously — a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) is the first major step.

A RePL shows that you have completed formal drone flight training and understand:

  • aviation safety
  • airspace rules
  • operational planning
  • radio procedures
  • practical flight operations

At NQ Aerovation, we deliver RePL training in partnership with FPV Australia, combining live instructor-led online theory with practical flight assessment delivered across North Queensland.

About the training....

The Remote Pilot’s Licence course is run over five days in total, consisting of four days of theory in an instructor-led virtual classroom and one day of face to face practical flight assessment on a Multi Rotor (<7kg and <25kg training available).

Fully interactive, and immersive learning environment, students will be able to fully engage with the instructor, and each other. All materials is supplied prior to the course, with access to FPV’s very comprehensive online learning material.

Once successfully completed, FPV Australia will submit to CASA, on behalf of the student, for the issue of a Remote Pilot’s License Restricted 25kg Class (sub 7kg).

All training material is provided, along with the use of the training aircraft.

RePL <7kg & Air Radio Operators Certificate (AROC): $2490

To upgrade to <25kg Option – Add $500

Multi-rotor RePL Courses – Practical

The RePL practical component consists of one full day of practical flight training and flight assessment delivered face-to-face across North Queensland.

Students will complete approximately five hours of practical flight experience on a Multi Rotor <7kg aircraft.

The practical assessment is designed to confirm that students can safely and confidently operate within CASA operational requirements.

Students completing the <25kg upgrade will also undertake additional flight assessment activities on a Multi Rotor <25kg aircraft category.

To attend the practical component, students must:

  • have completed the RePL theory component
  • OR be upgrading an existing RePL
  • OR hold a Part 61 flight crew licence and be adding a RePL endorsement pathway

Training aircraft are supplied as part of the course. Please enquire for other dates and locations.

Do I need a RePL to fly a drone in Australia?

Not always.

If you are flying purely for fun and operating within certain excluded categories, you may not require a RePL.

Under CASA regulations, some drones under 2kg may be operated within the excluded category without holding a RePL or ReOC, provided operations remain within standard operating conditions.

However, many operators choose to obtain a RePL because it:

  • builds professional knowledge and flight skills
  • opens pathways into the drone industry
  • allows you to operate under a ReOC holder
  • helps prepare you for larger and more advanced aircraft operations

Visit the Casa website for more information

Can I start a drone business with only a RePL?

A RePL certifies the pilot, not the business.

Holding a RePL allows you to operate as a remote pilot for a business or organisation that holds a Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC).

If you want to operate your own drone business under CASA approvals and procedures, you will also require a ReOC.

What is the difference between a RePL and a ReOC?

A RePL is issued to the individual pilot and confirms they have completed formal flight training and demonstrated practical competency.

A Remote Operators Certificate (ReOC) is issued to the business or organisation conducting drone operations.

In simple terms:

  • RePL = pilot certification
  • ReOC = business certification

What does the Multi-rotor <7kg RePL allow me to fly?

The Multi Rotor <7kg RePL qualifies you to operate multi-rotor drones up to 7kg within your approved operational framework.

This is a popular entry point into the drone industry and suits many:

  • photography / video drone
  • mapping drones
  • inspection drones
  • smaller enterprise aircraft

Why would I upgrade to <25kg?

The <25kg upgrade is commonly completed by operators wanting to progress into:

  • larger enterprise drones
  • agricultural drone operations
  • aircraft larger than 7kg and less than 25kg (max take off weight)

Many spray drones and larger aircraft require pilots to hold higher weight category qualifications such as a medium class RPA <150kg

What is a Medium Class RPA type endorsement?

A Medium Class RPA type endorsement is an additional flight test for a specific aircraft or operational category.

For example, operators moving into agricultural drone operations may complete endorsements for:

  • DJI Agras T25
  • DJI Agras T50
  • DJI Agras T100

Do I need previous drone experience to apply for RePL training?

No.

Many students entering RePL training are completely new to aviation and drone operations.

Training is designed to guide students through both theoretical and practical components step-by-step.

How long does the RePL course take?

The course is completed over five days:

  • 4 days instructor-led online theory
  • 1 day practical flight assessment

Are training aircraft supplied?

Yes.

Training aircraft are provided during the practical flight assessment component for both Multi-rotor <7kg and the <25kg upgrade.

Does the RePL expire?

No.

A Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) does not expire under current CASA regulations.

What is an AROC?

An AROC (Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate) allows legal communication over aviation radio frequencies when operating near controlled airspace or in situations where radio communication may be required.

The AROC training covers:

  • aviation radio procedures
  • radio phraseology
  • airspace communication
  • operational safety communications

Holding an AROC is an important part of operating professionally within the Australian aviation environment and is commonly completed alongside a RePL.

Is the AROC included in the course?

An AROC (Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate) allows legal communication over aviation radio frequencies when operating near controlled airspace or in situations where radio communication may be required.

Yes.

The Air Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) is included as part of NQ Aerovation’s RePL training package delivered in partnership with FPV Australia.

Course pricing includes:

  • RePL training
  • AROC certification
  • CASA licence fees
  • training materials
  • practical flight assessment

Is there a minimum age requirement?

There is currently no minimum age requirement to obtain a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL).

However, students completing the AROC component must be old enough to meet the aviation radio communication assessment requirements.

If enrolling younger students, we recommend contacting FPV Australia prior to booking to discuss the most suitable training pathway.
