FAQ's

Why hire a spray drone instead of buying one?

Drone hire allows you to increase spraying capacity without large upfront investment.

Hiring is ideal if you:

  • Need extra capacity during peak seasons.
  • Need to scale your operations.
  • Want backup while your own drone is being serviced.
  • Want to trial drone spraying before purchasing.

Can I hire a DJI Agras spray drone?

Yes. We hire DJI Agras agriculture spray drones designed for commercial spraying operations. Drone hire packages include batteries, chargers and accessories required for operation.

Do I need to be licensed to hire a drone?

Yes – either you or the person operating the drone on your behalf must hold a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) as well as the appropriate drone type endorsement. These are legal requirements for operating agricultural drones and ensure safe and compliant use. If you are a contractor, operating a drone for commercial use, you will also need a Remote Operators Certificate (ReOC). Please contact us if you need to obtain the relevant licensing here: Drone Training

Do I need to be licensed to hire a drone and fly on my own land?

Yes – even if you’re flying on your own property, you must hold a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and the appropriate endorsement for the type of drone you’re operating. This is a legal requirement for flying agricultural drones due to their size, weight, and intended use. Please contact us if you need to obtain the relevant licensing here: Drone Training

Do you offer drone training?

Yes. We provide CASA certified training, licensing and operational support to help contractors and growers operate safely and efficiently. Contact us to discuss available training options.

Do I need insurance to hire a drone?

Yes – you are responsible for adequate insurance coverage as a condition of hire. Insurance can be arranged specifically for the rental period, and insurance services like Drone Care offer short-term coverage options tailored for drone operations.

Do you offer seasonal or long-term drone hire?

Yes.

We offer:

  • Short-term hire (scale operations when you need to, or back up when your drone is down or being serviced).
  • Seasonal hire (this is popular during wet season access limitations or peak spray periods).
  • Lease to buy (option to purchase your drone equipment outright at the end of the hire period).

*Minimum weekly hire period applies.

How many hectares can a spray drone cover per hour?

Coverage depends on crop type, terrain and application rate. Contact us to discuss your operation.

What chemicals can be sprayed with a drone?

Agricultural spray drones (also known as UAV spray drones or crop spraying drones) are designed to precisely apply a wide range of agricultural products across farms and horticultural operations. Flying just above the crop canopy, they deliver targeted applications that improve efficiency, reduce chemical waste, and minimise soil compaction compared to traditional ground equipment.

Products Commonly Applied Using Agricultural Drones

Herbicides
Used for targeted weed control, including spot spraying problem areas or managing invasive species without treating entire paddocks.

Insecticides
Applied to control insect pests such as aphids, caterpillars, and other crop-damaging insects, helping protect yield and plant health.

Fungicides
Used to prevent or treat fungal diseases including mildew, mould, and leaf spot across a range of horticultural and broadacre crops.

Liquid Fertilisers and Nutrients
Spray drones can accurately apply liquid fertilisers, foliar feeds, and crop nutrition products to support plant growth.

Defoliants and Crop Management Products
Commonly used in crops such as cotton or horticulture where controlled leaf removal or growth regulation is required.

Biological Control Agents
Drones can disperse beneficial insects or biological treatments for integrated pest management programs.

Seed and Granular Materials
Some agricultural drones are configured to spread seed, cover crops, or granular products for rehabilitation, pasture improvement, or erosion control.

Most agricultural chemicals approved for aerial application may be suitable.

Always follow label directions and regulatory requirements.

Do you provide technical support during hire?

Yes.

Remote support is available during business hours to assist with setup, operational support or troubleshooting. Emergency support is available after business hours however additional fee’s may apply.

What happens if the drone or equipment breaks down?
